The Pichia System uses the yeast Pichia pastoris to produce important proteins (e.g. insulin-like growth factor) through recombinant DNA technology. Under the right fermentation conditions, recombinant yeast containing genes for a desired protein grows and makes that protein. After fermentation, the desired protein is separated from cells and other compounds. This system has become a state-of-the-art molecular and cellular biological system for basic and applied research around the world.
