TM1056

  • Deposition Date: 2003/09/19
  • Description: Periplasmic divalent cation tolerance protein.
  • Solution Method: X-RAY
  • Start: 1 End: 101 Sequence Type: Complete
  • Fold Function: Periplasmic divalent cation tolerance protein
  • Fold Summary: Class: alpha + beta. Ferredoxin-like fold. Alpha+beta sandwich with antiparallel beta-sheet; (beta-alpha-beta)x2. Forms timeric structures with the orthogonally packed beta-sheets.
  • Fold Description: Divalent ion tolerance protein, PFAM family cutA, multiple homologs in bacteria and eukaroyotes, including human. The same protein structure was recently solved by the Midwest Structural Genomic Center (PDB cod 1kr4, relaesed Aug 14, 2002). The structure of TM1056 is unexpectedly similar to that of TM0021, solved in our center, and to a family of regulatory/signalling proteins, such as GlnK protein from E. coli, suggesting a possible function for both Thermotoga proteins and their homologs. This similiarity was not predicted by any of the public fold prediction programs and is accompanied by a very low sequence similiarity of about 10% id. Structurally, both proteins belong to the ferredoxin fold, with two layers, one Beta, one Alpha.
