SDC JOB OPENING
The Structure Determination Core (SDC) of the Joint Center for Structural Genomics (see http://www.jcsg.org/), has an immediate opening for a senior software developer for research applications. The JCSG is one of four large-scale structural genomics centers funded through the Protein Structure Initiative of the National Institutes of Health (see http://www.nigms.nih.gov/psi/).
The SDC is based at Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource, in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, USA. SDC is responsible for all JCSG activities from receipt of frozen crystals through to the complete refinement of PDB ready coordinates. SDC is actively developing tools to improve the efficiency of the JCSG structure determination pipeline. SDC works closely with the JCSG Crystallomics Core (protein/crystal production) and Bioinformatics Core (target selection/tracking). See http://www.jcsg.org/ for more details.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate
will continue our development of a parallel processing environment for automated
protein structure determination and data analysis. The applicant will interact
closely with scientists in the group. The data processing environment uses a
Linux-based computing cluster and incorporates a variety of highly-used, third
party protein crystallography software.
Required Skills
The successful candidate
must possess an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in computer science, mathematics,
physics, structural biology or a related field or equivalent combination of
education and training. They must also have demonstrated programming skills with
modern programming languages. Experience with Java, XML and with software
development in a distributed computing environment are required. Experience with
Linux and scripting languages (Python/Perl) are also desirable. Familiarity with
protein crystallographic methods and software would be beneficial, but is not
required. Excellent communications skills and ability to work well in a R&D
development team are essential.
If you are interested in joining an
enthusiastic team of scientists and developers, working together on a
challenging project then please review the detailed job descriptions found
